ENACT Workshop with Experts (Ljubljana, September 28, 2026)

City of Ljubljana, castle in the upper left side.

The ENACT project invites you to its Workshop with Experts, a one-day event taking place on Monday, September 28, 2026 at Cukrarna (Poljanski nasip 40, Ljubljana), organised by RTV Slovenija alongside of Avdiofestival, which attracts more than 200 journalists from all over the world every year. The workshop presents the Easy-to-understand journalism hub together with the main results of the project, and brings international experts together with journalists, media professionals, accessibility specialists and end-users to discuss how easy-to-understand journalism can be taken forward across Europe.

Programme

From 10:00 on the mezzanine, the ENACT multimodal info point will be open throughout the day. In a dedicated space with games and screens, visitors can explore the project’s work first-hand. The info point also marks the first public presentation of the Easy-to-understand journalism hub, ENACT’s online hub of best practices. Developed through cross-border exchange between media professionals and co-designed with input from end-users, the hub brings together the project’s recommendations for producing E2U news and a collection of good practice examples from European media houses.

At 16:05 in the gallery, a live podcast conversation puts user perspectives and diverse voices at the centre. Rožnata dolina, the Val 202 podcast hosted by Katja Stojnić, gives a voice to people with unconventional ways of living who are often pushed aside or misunderstood. Its guest, Vicky Hristova, was part of the team behind Freaks No More!, Deutsche Welle’s podcast on visible and invisible disability, difference and inclusion. Who speaks, who listens, and who holds the microphone? Two podcasts from two public broadcasters share one stage to explore how the media can represent and include people who are too often left out of it.

At 17:05 in the classroom, the round table Who has the right to understand? Easy language and media accessibility in Europe brings together members of the ENACT External Advisory Board. Access to information is a human right, and easy language, with its simplified structures and reduced vocabulary, is one of the tools that make this right a reality. Yet its development across Europe has been uneven: in Sweden, written easy language has been part of the public system since the 1960s, while in many other countries it is only now gaining ground. The discussion will also turn to spoken easy-to-understand language, where pace, voice, pauses and the setting of communication all play a role, which is a key question for radio and television. Taking part are Elisa Perego, associate professor at the University of Pavia and expert in audiovisual translation and media accessibility; Katy Brickley, translator, easy language researcher and visiting research fellow at King’s College London; and Ulla Bohman, long-time head of the Swedish easy language agency, who since 2018 has run her own company offering training, lectures and editing in easy language, accessibility and human rights. The round table will be moderated by Ajda Kus from Val 202.
