ENACT analyzes the first steps of the research in Barcelona

The ENACT project (Easy-to-Understand News for Collaborative Transformation), a pioneering European initiative, co-funded by the EU’s Creative Europe programme, gathered to analyze the first steps of the research at a triple meeting in Catalonia (Spain).

The project brings together partners from Slovenia, Spain, Italy, Austria, and Latvia and is designed to make news more inclusive and easier to understand on web, radio, and television platforms.

On Monday, March 17, at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, the project partners shared details about the information obtained so far and the challenges that have been identified during the initial stages of the project.

ENACT also organized a meeting on Tuesday 18th hosted by TV3, the public broadcasting of Catalonia, to share data from a survey conducted with European broadcasters and associations working for people with disabilities. The survey, answered by 39 organizations, shows the growing awareness and interest in easy-to-understand language in Europe, but also the lack of agreed-upon guidelines for generating news in this format to ensure its effectiveness.

On Wednesday, March 19, participants took part in a conference at the Institut d’Estudis Catalans about Media and Accessibility. The meeting, with 120 participants, analyzed the application of audio description, subtitles, sign language or easy-to-understand language to make media more inclusive and accessible, and how artificial intelligence and virtual reality can help achieve this goal.
